Purepage Server
4.0 User Guide
The file description field (1) allows you to create a convenient group heading that
will be used in the file types list. The example above uses “Word Document” to
describe all the file extensions that may be considered a form of word document.
Purepage Server uses the file extension(s) field (2) to determine what extensions
belong to a group.  In the example shown above, you can see that the most common
file extension .doc is included in this “Word Document” group as well as other word-
type files such as .dot, .rtf, .asc, etc…
The application field (3) determines which application Purepage Server uses to print
these files.  Please note: you can also use the File Types Manager to create a group of
file types you wish Purepage Server to ignore. Possible options are:
Let Windows Pick - the default application that is defined for this file type in
the Windows Registry will be used for printing.
Microsoft Word, Excel or Powerpoint – the appropriate Microsoft Office
applications will be used for printing.  Microsoft Office must be installed for
this option to work correctly.
QuickView Plus – QuickView Plus will be used for printing.  QuickView Plus
must be installed for this option to work correctly.
Ignore Files – Purepage will simply ignore these files and not try to render
them into HTML.
In the example above, Microsoft Word is used to print its most common file extension
.doc but it is also responsible for printing all the documents in the “Word Document”
group or .dot, .rtf, .asc, etc… The File Types Manager tells Purepage Server to use
Microsoft Word to print these additional file types.
Installing Applications to Print File Types
For each file type you want Purepage to render into HTML, you will need to install an
application capable of printing this file type.  For example, to print Microsoft Word
documents, you would need to install an application capable of printing Microsoft
Word documents.  Usually this would be Microsoft Word itself but any other
application that can view and print this file type can be used, such as QuickView Plus
(see below).
TIP: Purepage Server provides additional capabilities when processing Microsoft Office
documents including the ability to preserve hyperlinks, inter-document links and tables of
contents in Word documents.  This capability is only available if Microsoft Office is installed and
configured to handle these file types.
