Purepage SDK Q & A: Technical Issues
What Systems does the Purepage SDK support?
Any 32-bit Windows operating system, including Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Millennium (ME), Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. See the System Requirements section for more information. The HTML produced with Purepage technology will of course be viewable from any system that has a modern web browser (including Microsoft Windows, UNIX, Linux, Mac, BeOS and more).
Will the Purepage SDK work with my scripting host or development environment?
The Purepage SDK will work with any scripting host or development environment that supports ActiveX/COM objects. See the Purepage SDK Overview section in the manual for more information.
Does the Purepage SDK require an application that can view original documents to be installed on the same computer?
Usually the answer is yes – the Purepage SDK does require an application capable of viewing any document type you wish to convert to HTML. The reason for this is because the Purepage
SDK relies on the original application to print the file to the Purepage printer.
It is important to note that Purepage does not in any way rely on the ‘export to HTML’ functionality of the original applications, if indeed this functionality exists. Purepage technology uses sophisticated
data extraction technology to convert printed files into HTML so that your published HTML documents will look the same as your originals.
It is not always necessary to install the full software in order to view and print documents.
Third party viewing software is available that can handle the viewing and printing of hundreds of documents. QuickView Plus from Inso Corporation is a good example of such an application (see www.avantstar.com for more information) that can view and print hundreds of document types very quickly.
Is the Purepage SDK thread safe?
Yes, you can print as many documents (as your system allows) to Purepage at once. You can also convert as many documents as you like to HTML at once.
You may also have multiple processes accessing the Purepage at once. The only limitation is the type of license you purchased.
What COM model does the Purepage SDK support?
Purepage is an apartment threaded COM control.
